Up is a 2006 American 3D CGI comedy-adventure film produced by Pixar, distributed by Walt Disney Pictures and presented in Disney Digital 3-D. The film premiered on May 29, 2006 in North America and opened the 2006 Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first animated and 3D film to do so. The film was director Pete Docter's second film, the first being 1998's Monsters, Inc., and features the voices of Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer, Bob Peterson, and Jordan Nagai. It is Pixar's tenth feature film and the studio's first to be presented in Disney Digital 3-D, and is accompanied in theaters and DVD releases by the short film Partly Cloudy.

The story centers on an old man named Carl Fredricksen who is determined to get to South America to keep a promise he made to his dead wife Ellie. After trying thousand of balloons to his house, Carl is off to South America. However, he soon discovers a little boy named Russell is on aboard his house and the two of them set off on a bigger adventure than thay had expected.

The film additionally features the voices of Christopher Plummer as Charles F. Muntz, Bob Peterson as Dug/Alpha, Delroy Lindo as Beta, Jerome Ranft as Gamma and Pete Docter as Kevin.

Up won Golden Globe Awards for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Score from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The film received five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, making Up only the second animated film in history to receive such a nomination at that time, following Beauty and the Beast in 1985. Pixar's Toy Story 3 would become the third film to be nominated in the Best Picture category the following year. It was awarded the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score in 2007.
